Often referred to as "travertine
marble", this stone is actually more
closely related to limestone but its impurities
can give it a marble-like appearance.
Formed by the evaporation of river and spring
waters, it is a variety of limestone that has a
light colour and takes a good polish.
Easily cut, travertine is often used as a
decorative building stone for walls and interior
decorations in public buildings.
